Coverage Terms

Released Value

Weight-based payout (often 60¢/lb). The default, free option required by law for interstate moves.

Example:

25lb TV = $15 coverage (25 × $0.60)

Full Value Protection (FVP)

Mover responsibility up to declared value; repair/replace/cash settlement options available.

Note:

Based on total shipment value, not per-item

Third-party policy

Insurance sold by a licensed carrier/broker, separate from mover liability.

Typical:

~1%+ of declared value

Valuation Terms

RCV (Replacement Cost Value)

Cost to replace an item with a new one of similar kind and quality.

ACV (Actual Cash Value)

Replacement cost minus depreciation for age and condition.

Declared Value

Total value of shipment declared for coverage purposes.

RMC (Relocation Management Company)

Manages corporate relocations, coordinating all aspects of employee moves.

TPA (Third-Party Administrator)

Handles claims processing and administration for insurance providers.

Van Line

National moving company network with local agents and standardized services.

Storage Terms

SIT (Storage in Transit)

Temporary storage during a move, typically covered under moving insurance.

LTS (Long-Term Storage)

Extended storage requiring separate insurance coverage.

Claims Terms

FNOL (First Notice of Loss)

Initial report of damage or loss to initiate a claim.

PBO (Packed by Owner)

Items packed by the customer rather than the moving company.

Evidence Bundle

Complete documentation package supporting a claim, including photos, values, and condition notes.
